At Walki Oy's Valkeakoski factory, compressed air is a critical part of the production processes, and its quality directly affects both the consistency of the products and the durability of the equipment. Previously, the humidity of the compressed air was monitored with random measurements using a hand-held Vaisala Indigo80 device, which only gave a snapshot of the situation. However, this did not allow for following trends or reacting quickly if problems with the humidity content arose.

The solution was a continuous monitoring system supplied by SmartAir and Energy Oy, which utilizes Vaisala's DMT143 dew point transmitters. Now, the dew point temperature and other compressed air properties are measured in real time from multiple points, and the results are clearly displayed in the user interface, highlighted in colors. Deviations trigger an immediate alarm, which is also transmitted to email and the mobile application. This allows personnel to react quickly to problems and prevent production disruptions.
The system proved its value, for example, in the summer of 2024, when a dryer malfunction increased the humidity level. Real-time monitoring warned of the situation immediately, and corrective actions could be taken before production was interrupted. The new system has brought Walki clear benefits: better production consistency, less downtime, more energy-efficient operation and reliable data to support maintenance and investment planning. In the future, the system will be further developed, for example with particle measurements, which can be used to demonstrate the purity of the compressed air in accordance with international standards.
