SMARTAIR

Compressed air quality

Ensure compressed air quality and residual oil content

You ensure cleanliness, functionality and safety. The quality of compressed air directly affects the quality of production, safety and reliability of processes. Impure compressed air is directly proportional to the service life of compressed air components and the need for maintenance.

  • Results based on EN 12021 and ISO 8573-1 standards
  • Measurement even the next business day
  • Reliable evidence for audits, quality systems and quality meetings
ISO 8573-1 defines the cleanliness classes and limits for particles, moisture and oil in compressed air. The standard helps ensure that compressed air meets process, product quality and safety requirements.
EN 12021 defines breathing air quality requirements and limit values for critical contaminants. The standard ensures that breathing air produced from compressed air is safe and suitable for breathing.
Industry-leading measurement technology and analysis methods
Only measuring devices from well-known manufacturers
We serve all over Finland and the Nordic countries
Reporting even the next day
Deviations are reported clearly
Our design team provides solution suggestions
If necessary, also system design based on identifying customer needs

What does the measurement include?

Our service is particularly suitable for applications where the purity of compressed air is of critical importance – such as in painting processes, breathing air use, and production processes that require precision (for example, laser cutting and 3D measuring devices).

At SmartAir, we offer this compressed air expert service. Measurements are carried out in accordance with standards EN 12021 and ISO 8573-1 from samples taken directly from compressed air in accordance with. The measurement does not include particle measurements. Particles are documented in accordance with the filtration system and its documents.

Breathing air quality (EN 12021)

The measurement ensures that the breathing air produced from compressed air meets the requirements of the EN 12021 standard. The analysis covers critical contaminants that can directly affect the safety and health of the user.

Measured impurities:

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
  • Humidity (dew point)
  • Oil (general level)

Oil mist measurement (ISO 8573-1)

Oil mist measurement is aimed at oil aerosol (oil mist) in compressed air, which is a key impurity in many industrial processes. The measurement does not target oil vapors. ISO 8573-1 defines total oil (aerosol + vapor).

  • The measurement is performed directly on a sample taken from the compressed air.
  • The method is based on collection and comparison to defined levels.
  • The measurement provides a reliable picture of the oil mist concentration and the functionality of the filtration system.

Results are presented in clear levels

ISO 8573-1 Level 2 (or better)

< 0.1 mg/m³ High purity

Medium level

< 0.5 mg/m³ Sufficient for many applications

High oil content

< 1.0 mg/m³ Clear oil load, requires action

Why is it worth measuring compressed air quality?

Compressed air contaminants can cause significant risks and costs:

  • Painting processes: Oil causes surface defects, defective products and rejections
  • Product quality and safety: contamination risks, especially in the food industry and critical processes
  • Breathing air: direct security risk to users
  • Process reliability: ensuring the operation of the filtration and compressed air system
  • Documentation: Reliable evidence of compressed air quality for audits and quality systems
  • System development: valuable information for system updates and pipeline development

Who is the service suitable for?

  • Painting and surface treatment companies
  • Persons and supervisors using breathing air
  • Food and beverage industry
  • Industrial processes requiring clean compressed air
  • Companies that want to document compressed air quality
  • Industry that uses instrument air quality
  • For everyone involved in quality monitoring

What does the reporting include?

The client receives a clear and practical report that includes:

  • Measurement results as numerical values
  • Comparison with standards (EN 12021 / ISO 8573-1)
  • Interpretation with respect to the limits of validity (OK / not OK)
  • Assessment of the functionality of the compressed air after-treatment equipment
  • Recommendations for further actions (filtration, maintenance, development)
